Yesterday our fourth photo call as part of our Community Heroes Fund initiative took us to Pilton in Edinburgh, where we were delighted to announce Pilton Equalities Project as the newest beneficiary!
Pilton Equalities Project will receive £500 which would be used to develop a craft class as a way to promote social skills, increase confidence, reduce isolation and enable individuals to practice manual dexterity skills and improve mental welling being. Importantly, as isolation within the community is an issue the bursary will provide transport to individuals who would otherwise be unable to attend.
The project’s main aim is to enhance the quality of life for older and other vulnerable adults in North Edinburgh, by continuing to develop services that enable active community participation. This encourages independence and measurably reduces isolation.
They continually run lifelong learning classes as well as many other services including day-care clubs and other services for over 900 members in the North Edinburgh area. The Chummy Club which we attended yesterday offered breakfast, lunch and a great exercise class. You can see more of what happens at the club by viewing our gallery.
Weatherseal managing director Tony Reilly commented:
“We were bowled over by the response in Edinburgh and had some fantastic applications. Pilton Equalities Project was chosen as a worthy beneficiary due to the many services they offer to such a large, potentially vulnerable group. Unfortunately resources are very limited and we feel it’s important that additional funding is made available to such a good cause.”
Theodora Hidalgo, learning and training officer at Pilton Equalities Project added:
“This is a great opportunity to provide an activity requested by the local older people, especially as it will also enable us to provide transport which is vitally important to those less able.”
Remember our Ayrshire applications are flooding in, so if you think you know a deserving community group then share this link http://community.weatherseal.co.uk/application-form/!
