We were in Muirkirk on Friday to award our newest beneficiary with a £500 bursary and meet the Boys Brigade members!
Applications to the area opened in December and we had lots of entries ranging from childcare groups to holiday home schemes and karate clubs to football groups.
1st Muirkirk Boys’ Brigade Company will receive £500 which they will be used to paint and repair a building they purchased some years ago. It is currently used as a Clubroom for members to use during the week, where they can enjoy playing table tennis and other games but is desperately in need of some TLC. The local Company has 50 members of school age both girls and boys who will greatly benefit from the clubroom refurbishment.
While the B.B. does hold a number of fund raising activities – it is finding it more difficult than ever to raise enough funds as would compensate to allow the members to enjoy and participate in all the activities.
Weatherseal managing director Tony Reilly said of First Muirkirk Boys Brigade:
“We were bowled over by the response in Kilmarnock and had some fantastic applications. 1st Muirkirk Boys Brigade is a well deserving cause and gives much needed structure and entertainment to youngsters in the area. We are excited to see how the new clubhouse is going to look with our funding.”
We had a chat with Jim Currie, Treasurer at 1st Muirkirk Boys Brigade who said:
“It’s great that Weatherseal has recognised the good that the group does and the £500 will go far in helping us to repair a building we purchased years ago but haven’t had the funds to do up. It’s vitally important for companies to support the local community.”
We will be announcing our next beneficiary in the coming few weeks. Currently we are accepting entries for those groups in the Motherwell area – so get applying here!
